Marshall goes on his first real date post-Lily with Chloe. Ted and Barney try to convince him the girl is crazy. Lily stalks Chloe and eventually she and Marshall reunite. Lily and Marshall attempt to elope at Atlantic City. Various obstacles such as not having a wedding license stand in their way, and just when they are about to marry each other, they realize they don't want to elope, but to have a big wedding.

When Robin refuses to go to the mall, Marshall and Barney propose a "slap bet". Marshall believes she was married, and Barney believes she was a porn actress. Robin reveals she was in an embarrassing music video in the mall. Marshall is eventually awarded five slaps to be delivered anytime, and lands his first slap.

Barney invites his gay, black brother James (Wayne Brady) to "liven" up the gang's life as all of them have been 'coupled' off and Barney is alone. James lives the same lifestyle as Barney. To his dismay, Barney discovers that James is engaged to a man named Tom. He disapproves until he discovers that James and Tom have adopted a baby, making Barney an uncle.

The group was planning to watch the Super Bowl when they are invited to a funeral on the same evening. They make plans to watch the game the next night and make a pact to not find out the score before the next evening. Everyone except for Ted discovers the result. Cameo by Emmitt Smith.

Ted has a shot at his dream job, but loses it when he and Robin barely miss a flight to Chicago for the job interview. They retrace their steps and the steps of their friends to determine whose fault it was that Ted missed the flight.

Lily's performance in an awful play draws honest but harsh criticism from Barney. When Lily is hurt, Barney defends himself by reversing the situation. Ted and Robin fight over what to do with "stuff" left over from each other's previous relationships. Marshall uses his second slap.

When Ted plans to move in with Robin, Barney steals Ted's moving truck. Marshall and Lily initially enjoy having the apartment to themselves, but soon learn that Ted kept everything together. Robin and Ted decide not to move in together after all, much to Marshall and Lily's joy.

Marshall has a bachelor party and Lily has a bridal shower. Barney ruins the bachelor party, and Robin buys Lily a vibrator as a gift, unaware that the party's guests are almost entirely Lily's elders. Lily later reveals that Barney went to great lengths to make sure she and Marshall reunited.

Barney is ecstatic about his appearance on the "The Price Is Right" because he believes Bob Barker is his father. He wins every challenge and gives Marshall and Lily numerous wedding gifts. Marshall and Lily agree to stay apart before the wedding so the moment is more magical. Lily learns she can't fit in her wedding dress.
